Oscar (Will Smith) is a failure. He is a bottom-feeding fish who constantly loses at gambling, and he is in trouble. The Puffer Fish Sykes (Martin Scorsese) wants him banished to the depths of the ocean, so the two jellies Bernie and Ernie (Doug E. Doug and Ziggy Marley) drag him off. As fortune would have it the shark trying to kill Oscar is struck down by a falling anchor. Oscar is now a powerful Sharkslayer (original name for the film) as witnessed by the jellies !
Meanwhile another shark, Lenny (Jack Black), must disappear. Having discovered he is vegetarian, his life is no longer worth living, and he is an embarassment to his father. Lenny, and Oscar’s friend Angie (Renée Zellweger), know he got lucky, so Oscar is employed to fake Lenny’s death.
