Brief synopsis -
We set out to discover the dangerous, sometimes lethal, power of love and obsession. Luis
(Antonio Banderas) and Julia (Angelina Jolie)
are bound together first by matrimony, and then by fierce love and desire. But the closer Luis
comes to Julia, the more enigmatic she seems to be.
Luis wrote to America to find a bride, and following a pen-pal relationship he is drawn
by a photograph to invite her to join him in Cuba - and off the boat steps Julia Russell. He
becomes inamoured with her, marries her and entrusts him with not just his love, but his whole
life. She loves it but for some reason begins a game of goose-chase with him after stealing all
his cash.
He abandons his life to search for his new wife and is eventually to discover that his
love is actually Bonnie Castle, a whore brutally controlled by her pimp who killed the real
Julia Russell on the boat from America. At the expense of the whole of his past life and his
coffee factory he and she deteriorate into the world of killing the pimp and earning a living
by cheating at cards.
For Luis, the loneliness which led to love became a passion transcending reason and
defying convention, as he and Bonnie engaged in a dangerous dance that took them across the
landscape of Cuba, into obsession, eroticism, crime ... and death-row.
Based upon the novel Waltz into Darkness by Cornell Woolrich.

An odd mixture of a love story, a crime drama, and a historical costume drama. Angelina plays the part of a strumpet with great spirit, and remains
her most explicit role engaging in rather more intercourse than perhaps necessary. Luis (Antonio) chasing Julia (Angelina) across Mexico while
discovering her dark background and destroying his own life makes for an exciting film, although it takes some watching. Well worth seeing.

A deep and interesting film. Unless you are a fan of Antonia or Angelina then youll be bored during the first half. If you manage it, the
second half does get better. Angie plays a magnificent role and you certainly see a lot of her, in the film and the flesh !
