Brief synopsis -
A simple premise behind a complicated plot. Randall Memphis Raines (Nicolas Cage) was an infamous
car-jacker - the best in the state. He could boost more cars faster than anyone else, but he was never caught. Years later he is a
legitimate car mechanic and rennovator and all is going well until he discovers his brother is in serious trouble.
Bobby KipRaines (Giovanni Ribisi) borrowed money from a vicious loan-shark and his mother fears for his
life. She sends Memphis to check up on his brother and, it ends up that he must repay Kips loan ... and the interest. Memphis must steal half a
million dollars worth of motor vehicles within a week, otherwise their next stop is the crusher.
Memphis must recruit the best boosters in the business to help him ... but all his old buddies are now living normal lives - except Sway
(Angelina Jolie) and Sphinx (Vinnie Jones) who he persuades to help him out. The plan is
hatched. They pick out fifty specialist cars, and choose to make one, all-out attack on stealing them - they will do it within one day. They spend
their few days reckie-ing the cars, and the night of the deadline they go into action. However, the cop originally assigned to arrest Memphis back in
the old days, Detective Roland Castlebeck (Delroy Lindo), is on his case now ... vengence is at hand.
Car one ... stolen. Car two ... boosted. Car three ... four ... five ... all the way upto 49. However, the 50th car, a rather rare one, is his
unicorn - last time he tried to steal one he failed. The cop very, very nearly catches him ... and nearly does so this time.
Following some fancy driving he eventually evades the police and arrives at the dock ... thirty seconds too late - his brother has had it. Off to
the loan-sharks place and now his life is in jeopardy. The Castlebecks partner, Detective Drycoff (Timothy Olyphant),
is shot, and Memphis nearly is, but he ends up killing the shark and the film ends.

A remake of a former film, which is a considerable improvement. Los Angeles makes for a suitable backdrop for this underworld thriller, and the
vehicles are handled carefully. The characters are believable, the action is fast and the story a little more possible than perhaps the US police
would like to admit. My second favourite Angelina film which is a must for everyone to watch.
