Brief synopsis -
Set in the changing times of the 1960s, we follow the true story of Susanna Kaysen (Winona Ryder), a young woman who ends up in a renowned mental institution after attempting to take her own life. She faces the ultimate choice of remaining the way she is, joining those inside the asylum, or reforming and rejoining the harsh realities of life and society. While on the “short rest” prescribed by her psychiatrist, she quickly meets the seductive, if dangerous, Lisa (Angelina Jolie). Lisa is rather devious and unpredictable, it is she who has found a hiding place away from the vigilance of the ward sisters, and the hawk-eyed matron (Whoopi Goldberg).
