Brief synopsis -
Amelia (Angelina Jolie) is a run of the mill New York cop. New York is not a normal city. There is a serial killer on
the loose and the best man for the job, Lincoln Rhyme (Denzel Washington), former top homicide detective. As the film
opens he is reliving the moment he was at a crime scene whereupon a heavy beam fell on him - nearly cutting him in half and leaving him only the use of
his shoulders and one finger - with which he must live his life. He is bed-ridden and all he wants to do is make the final transition and soar with the
falcons who nest outside his high rise apatment. He fears that the next seizure will leave him a permanent vegetable, something he cannot begin to fathom.
Amelia is called to a subway tunnel where she stumbles across a body and, after stopping a train, she proves herself as an adept crime scene
investigator by noticing an inconsequential misplaced screw covering a piece of paper - starting a trend of deliberately leaving clues with each victim
as part of a bizarre puzzle. This could be attributable to her having read Rhymes book Scene Of The Crime.
Lincoln is visited by an old pal, Detective Paulie Sellitto (Ed ONeill), who humbly asks for his help with a
murder and kidnapping - he is still on the police payroll. This being the evidence discovered by Amelia, of which the down-side is the evidence itself,
which tells Lincoln the time and place of the next victims demise, but there never seems to be quite enough time to prevent it.
Lincoln drafts Amelia in as his eyes and ears out on the field. Whereever the killer has been, she must examine the crime scene, find the next clue,
and pass on the details to him so he can work out the answer to the riddle. He makes full use of the newly set-up investigation unit in his flat, and
the help of his care nurse Thelma (Queen Latifaih) and science expert Eddie Ortiz (Luis Guzman),
but pompous Captain Cheney (Michael Rooker), resents the respect the C-4 Quad give Rhyme and his choice of inexperienced
partner Donaghy, with who there are a couple of stumbling blocks. He requests over the headset to cut off a victims hands so they can examine her
shackles - she does not like that ! Also, the killer has a curious penchant for old New York.
They follow clue after clue, killing after maiming, they realise they are dealing with a sadistic murderer who will not be prevented from
completing his mission. Finally, they discover that the pattern is of a rare crime book buried deep within the local public library describing the
perfect serial killing in turn of the century New York - called The Bone Collector. Deduction leads to deduction and when the killer is
prepared to take out his last victim, an ultimate revenge on Lincoln for testifying against a former fellow police officer, Amelia arrives at his
apartment in the nick of time. Lincoln is safe, although seriously injured, Amelia is safe, if unnerved, New York is safe.

Angelina portrays her character rather convincingly, and Denzels crippled detective is rather a successful co-star. A thrilling film (for those
who are squeamish) and a little mucky (with blood and grime) rather well constructed in the old serial-killer crime vein. Good sets,
fair plot and keeps you guessing over the murderer - a good film.

Jolie plays a convincing rookie cop in the shadows of Denzel Washington. A psychological thriller, a good film, no fault to be found with this one.
One Angelina can be proud of.
